The Green Card Process - After Winning The Green Card Lottery

Overview

If you recieve the Diversity Immigrant Visa after successfully completing the eligibility interview as required by the
Kentucky Consular Center you can then permanently live, work and study in the US, much like any other US citizen, except for a few rights,
such as the right to vote, the right to leave the US for extended periods of time while maintaining your permanent residency
and the ability to hold an american passport.

Being a Diversity Immigrant Visa holder, after you have lived in the US for a required number of years by fulfilling certain green card eligibility requirements,
you can apply for a green card.

Green Card Lottery Vs. Diversity Immigrant Visa

The green card lottery is a reference made to the Diversity Immigrant Visa process,
because after you get the Immigrant Visa through the Diversity Lottery program you can apply for a green card
like any other immigrant holding other visa types. No matter which type of visa you hold, you have to clear the set criteria for your green card application.

The term 'green card lottery' is not an official term, rather it is a niche term used by most people applying for DV lottery,
because it qualifies them to apply for the green card at a later point in time.
You should not confuse the green card with a diversity immigrant visa, as both of them are entirely different from each other.

Getting Selected In The Green Card Lottery Process

The Consulate publishes the list of winners of the green card lottery on the website of the
US Department of State, http://travel.state.gov through the Entry Status Check on the E-DV website www.dvlottery.state.gov.
The consulate will not send e-mails or mails via post.
The applicants should take personal responsibility to check the results by themselves.
This is unless the applicant is using the services of a green card submission service, which can then receive the
successful winning notes and communicate them to the applicant.

The successful candidate will be able to see the instructions on how to proceed to the next process after the selection.
A notification of the date and time of the immigration interview appointment will also be available for green card winners.

Interview at US Embassy or Consulate

On the date of the interview, you have to submit the completed immigrant visa application along with the required documents and forms.
You have to pay the required fees, a medical examination report and other particulars as required by the Embassy.
The Embassy officer will review your particulars and verify the legitimacy of the data you provided in order to qualify for the lottery.
When the officer is satisfied with the results, you will have your Diversity Immigrant Visa stamped.

If the proof attached with the application form is not sufficient, the embassy officer may require further documents to be submitted
and could schedule a follow up interview. In cases where the attached documents do not appear to be valid, the officer might also
reject the green card application form.

Diversity Visa Immigration is a privilege offer and no one can claim it as a matter of right.
It is at the discretion of the local embassy to decide whether an applicant will or will not get the DV immigrant visa.

Those who miss the interview date for any reason will not get an opportunity for a second interview.
Therefore, it is very important to be on time for the interview.
Errors in forms submitted can turn out to be a costly mistake.
It is best to do the needed preparation work to submit a valid green card application or to get
professional help to ensure all the particulars are legit and valid as required by the embassy, eliminating the
need for a re-interview or undue rejection.
